United Airlines has been a longtime supporter of PILI and this year has increased their donation to sponsor their first Named PILI Internship.
Steve Fus, Associate General Counsel at United Airlines said, “United is proud to give back and support PILI’s Internship Program which not only instills the importance of public service in law students, but also supports legal aid and access to justice for those in need.”
Since launching the Pro Bono & Community Service Program from Chicago headquarters in 2012, United attorneys have been working diligently to make a difference for those in need. United Airlines’ legal department has successfully developed programs with legal aid organizations working on a wide variety of issues involving seniors, the disabled, individuals negatively impacted by the criminal justice system and individuals escaping persecution in foreign countries. United attorneys assisted almost 500 individuals in 2018, realizing the unique sense of accomplishment and meaning in using their skills to contribute to the community.
PILI Executive Director Michael Bergmann said, “We have so appreciated United’s support over the years and are excited that they are now funding the first corporate-sponsored Named PILI Internship position.”
PILI designates a number of Named and Honorary Interns each year, thanks to special funding commitments made by individual and organizational champions for public interest law. United is the first corporation to sponsor a PILI Intern and we are extremely grateful for their contribution!
