In September 2020, the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) expanded Illinois Free Legal Answers to include Illinois This program is the only appellate-specific help desk in Illinois to assist self-represented litigants (SRLs) with their civil appeal. It is also the first of its kind in the nation.
Every time I attend a PILI meeting, I am inspired by my colleagues and am reminded of my own commitment to do pro bono work. Second, PILI meetings and events are fun — great people and interesting conversations.

While we are all excited to get back to life after the pandemic, we cannot forget our vulnerable neighbors. Many of the protections shielding them during this difficult time are expiring; the eviction moratorium is being rolled back and debt payments will soon come due. Civil legal aid helps to ease these burdens in our communities.
