PILI’s Legal Help Within Project Reach Kicks Off with Successful First Clinic

On April 8th, PILI hosted the first Legal Help Within Reach Clinic in Sterling, Illinois. That morning, 16 volunteers from Rock Island’s Deere & Company, Lane & Waterman and Pepping, Balk, Kincaid & Olson took a bus to the YWCA of the Saulk Valley to meet with 11 clients about wills and powers of attorney. All of the clients walked away with their needed estate and advance directive documents.

Through Legal Help Within Reach, PILI recruits attorneys and law student volunteers from urban areas to volunteer at free legal clinics for low-income Illinoisans living in rural and underserved communities. These clinics provide much needed and otherwise inaccessible legal assistance to low-income people, families and communities in need.

PILI is grateful for the support of Equal Justice Works, Deere & Company, Lane & Waterman and Riley Safer Holmes & Cancila for providing significant funding to support this project.
