National Volunteer Week, celebrated this year from April 19-25, 2026, is an opportunity for PILI to recognize and acknowledge our own outstanding and dedicated volunteers. Without our vast network of volunteers throughout Illinois, PILI would not be where it is today. Today, we are spotlighting members of our Young Professionals Board who meet the moment by using their own time and talents to increase access to justice.
Kaitlyn Sawyer
Why am I involved with PILI? During college, I interned with a defense attorney who was deeply committed to community building alongside his legal practice. When I asked why he chose a career in serving the public interest over a traditional corporate path, his answer stayed with me: everyone deserves access to fair representation regardless of their background or financial means. That belief continues to shape my work today, guiding both my involvement with PILI and my commitment to building a wealth management practice focused on expanding access to wealth planning strategies aimed to help individuals achieve clarity, confidence, and agency in their financial lives.

Why are you involved with PILI? I am involved with PILI because I believe that equal access to justice is a fundamental right, and PILI bridges the gap between those who need legal help and the legal professionals who can provide it. At a time of rising need across Illinois, PILI’s ability to connect and mobilize the legal community—from law students to seasoned practitioners—turns shared purpose into real, lasting impact for the people, families, and communities who need it most. I am proud to support an organization that strengthens the culture of service within our profession and empowers those working to make justice accessible for all.
