At our most recent board meeting on September 30, 2015 the PILI Board of Directors elected several new members. Those elected to serve include Cara Hendrickson, the Chief of the Public Interest Division for the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, Lindsay Miller, a staff attorney at the Roger Baldwin Foundation of ACLU, Inc., and Phillip Mohr, the Deputy Director of Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation (CVLS). Each of these attorneys have had impressive legal careers with demonstrated commitments to public interest law.
A graduate of Harvard Law School, Cara Hendrickson was a 2001 PILI Graduate Fellow at Business and Professional People for the Public Interest (BPI). She then worked at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, then as a law clerk and eventually as a Skadden Fellow back at BPI. After her Skadden Fellowship, Cara became a partner at Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym, Ltd. where she worked as a civil rights attorney for over eight years. Now, Cara puts her cross-sector collaboration skills to use as the Chief of the Public Interest Division for Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan.
Lindsay Miller was a Root-Tilden Kern Public Interest Scholar at the New York University School of Law. She has worked on civil liberties and institutional reform cases since becoming a Staff Attorney at the ACLU of Illinois in 2013, and she also supervises PILI Law Student Interns and Graduate Fellows. Prior to law school, she worked as a special education and middle school math and science teacher in Miami-Dade, Florida.
Phillip Mohr graduated from DePaul University College of Law, and was a volunteer at CVLS before he began working there in 1991. He became the Family Law Director in 1996 and the Deputy Director in 2006. Phillip manages his own caseload in addition to training and tutoring volunteers. He is also the Supervising Attorney for PILI’s Interns and Fellows.
PILI’s Board of Directors is currently led by President Richard O’Malley, Jr. of Sidley Austin LLP, and by Vice President Bradley G. Lane of Brinks Gilson & Lione.
