ABOUT THE CLINIC:

Free Legal Clinic for Low-Income Senior Landlords: Low-income senior landlords are an under-served group within Cook County. Though many legal aid programs restrict their services to tenants only, the Elder Law and Wellness Initiative is seeing an increase in the number of seniors who live in owner-occupied properties and rely on the rental income from the other units to supplement their fixed income in retirement. When tenants do not pay, this often stretches the senior’s finances beyond breaking point. Many even face foreclosure actions. During this half-day clinic, volunteers will meet with low-income landlords to give guidance and direction in completing eviction notices, eviction complaint and summons forms. Volunteers will also provide advice about ways the landlords can meet their legal obligations in ending tenancies and create a healthier relationship with new tenants.

The Elder Law and Wellness Initiative (“ELWI”) is committed to increasing senior citizens’ access to and understanding of our legal and social support system. ELWI’s objective is to work with seniors and their caregivers to nurture and promote the social health and wellness of seniors, while ensuring that their legal rights are ably represented and protected. ELWI operates a free legal clinic for seniors that provides legal and social service information to people who are over sixty and their caregivers. Learn more about ELWI.

Registration is required by 3:00 pm on Monday, August 22nd. If you have any questions or problems with the form, please contact Ocie Davis by email or by phone at 312-832-5127.
