Sixth Judicial Circuit Self-Represented Litigant Help Desks
During a 2-hour shift, volunteers meet with self-represented litigants at the Champaign & Macon County Courthouses for 30-minute appointments to help them understand and navigate the legal process, fill out forms and answer questions.
The help desk in Champaign County is held in the conference rooms outside of the Self-Help Center on the first floor of the courthouse near courtroom L. Locally, it is known as the "Ask-A-Lawyer Desk" and is held from 11:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. once a month on select Wednesdays. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic the help desk in Champaign county is currently operating in a hybrid virtual/live format. Attorneys can choose to volunteer via Zoom from anywhere or in person.
The help desk in Macon County is held in the Self-Help Center at the Macon County Courthouse from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. once a month on select Wednesdays.
