Volunteer Training – Legal Help Within Reach: Expungement Clinic

PILI’s Legal Help Within Reach Program along with the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee and Prairie State Legal Services will be holding an Expungement Clinic that will provide free legal assistance to individuals in Henry, Mercer, Rock Island and Whiteside Counties seeking to clear their criminal record. Volunteers will consult with participants on available options for relief, prepare petitions to expunge and/or seal eligible records, and provide guidance on navigating the process from start to finish. The Expungement Clinic is being handled on a virtual/remote basis.

This training will cover the process of sealing and expungement in Illinois and will be provided by PILI and Prairie State Legal Services.

Speaker: Kevin Hempy, Prairie State Legal Services

Volunteer lawyers are required to attend this training session on sealing and expungement in order to volunteer, unless they handle expungement matters on a regular basis in their practice, or have attended a similar training session recently. A recording will be available for volunteers who cannot attend the live training.
