PILI Virtual Pro Bono CLE Series: Adult Guardianship & Elder Care

Join us for this free statewide CLE series to learn about timely pro bono legal topics!  We will be hosting these virtual CLEs every 2nd Thursday of the month at noon for 1.0 hour of CLE credit throughout the rest of 2020.  More information and speakers are coming soon.

Adult Guardianship and Elder Care: Basics for Pro Bono Service

This seminar will cover the basics of adult guardianship cases, elder law issues and the effect of COVID-19. Join us to learn about the differences in practice around the state as compared to Cook County, how to assess a case, and an overview of the process and deadlines.

Speaker: Kaye Dent, Managing Partner at Dent Law Offices, Ltd.

After years of practice as both a State’s Attorney and Public Defender, she has joined her husband in Dent Law Offices, where she provides an array of Elder Law and estate planning services, focusing on Nursing Home Planning and Special Needs Planning. As a member of Elder Counsel and National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Illinois Chapter, Kaye has the most up-to-date knowledge and resources to meet her clients’ needs. She is also a member of her local bar associations and serves as Treasurer of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Illinois.  She also serves on the  Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation Advisory Board for Effingham County, and Chairs the Fifth Circuit Pro Bono Committee of the Public Interest Law Initiative. Kaye speaks frequently to public groups regarding Estate Planning, Nursing Home Planning, Special Needs issues and other topics. She co-presented “Elder Law Crossover: 10 Things Elder Law Attorneys want Estate Planning Attorneys to Consider” for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education in 2016 and has presented for several other continuing legal education courses.

PILI has been approved of 1.0 hour of MCLE credit for this specific program. This CLE series will focus on judicial circuits in which PILI operates a Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee, but all are welcome.

These CLE programs are free, but we ask that you do at least one of the following over the next 12 months:

  • Answer two Illinois Free Legal Answers questions for every hour of CLE Credit;
  • Sign up for one shift at a Self-Represented Litigant Help Desk for every hour of CLE Credit (Third, Sixth & Tenth Circuits);
  • Take one pro bono case through Land of Lincoln, Prairie State or PILI or other local legal aid organization.
