The UIC John Marshall Law School Veterans Legal Clinic provides free legal assistance to veterans in VA benefit appeals following an improper denial by the VA. The Clinic also provides legal assistance to veterans seeking to have their discharge status reclassified. Clinic staff are also involved in Veterans Treatment courts throughout Northern Illinois. The Veterans Clinic has a national reputation for advocacy and education on veteran and military service related issues.

In addition to representing veterans, the Veterans Clinic is also active in education, publication, and policy on veteran and active duty related topics including: VA benefits and appeals, the Uniformed Servicemembers Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, Treatment Courts, and underserved veteran populations. A PILI fellow could expect to work on cases representing individual veterans as well as policy initiatives or education projects.
