Land of Lincoln Law Student Intern – Alton

Land of Lincoln Legal Aid provides free civil legal services through five regional offices to low income individuals and senior citizens in 65 counties in Illinois. The Western Regional Office located in Alton, IL, provides legal services to individuals in 12 counties, ranging from rural to urban, including Madison County, IL, which is in the Metro St. Louis area. An Internship with Land of Lincoln provides an opportunity to perform meaningful work, while having a substantial impact on the lives of low income members of our community.

Land of Lincoln assists clients in a variety of substantive areas of law including tenant rights, housing, public benefits, consumer, foreclosure defense, education, family, domestic violence and elder law. Land of Lincoln attorneys provide a wide range of assistance to clients ranging from advice and counsel; litigation; representation in administrative hearings; and community education. Land of Lincoln also has one of the first medical-legal partnership in Illinois with a behavioral health emphasis. Land of Lincoln attorneys regularly collaborate with other community social service providers and stakeholders to address the legal needs of low income individuals and senior citizens in the community.

A PILI Intern will have the opportunity to work directly with clients, collect evidence, draft pleadings and memorandum of law, provide community education at our court-based project, perform legal research, and negotiate settlements and handle court and administrative appearances pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711, when applicable.

This agency is approved to host a Law Student Intern during the summer in Alton as well as Carbondale, Champaign and East St. Louis. They are also approved to host Graduate Fellows.
