In September 2020, the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) expanded Illinois Free Legal Answers to include Illinois This program is the only appellate-specific help desk in Illinois to assist self-represented litigants (SRLs) with their civil appeal. It is also the first of its kind in the nation.
Every time I attend a PILI meeting, I am inspired by my colleagues and am reminded of my own commitment to do pro bono work. Second, PILI meetings and events are fun — great people and interesting conversations.

Many of the protections shielding them during this difficult time are expiring; the eviction moratorium is being rolled back and debt payments will soon come due. Civil legal aid helps to ease these burdens in our communities.
