Between our Annual Pro Bono Reception, weekly Educational Seminars Series and CLEs across the state, it's been a busy summer at PILI! We wanted to pause though and take a look at some of the great work being done by our Alumni, friends and board members. For our Alumni spotlights, we talked to our Alumni Network Service Team Leader, as well as a former PILI Fellow at Chicago Volunteer Legal Services who now serves on their board. Then, we looked behind the scenes at a brand new collaboration between a legal service agency and a large law firm to help families in need. Finally, hear from one of PILI's longest-serving board members, who has been part of our ranks since 1985.
"PILI has provided me with an invaluable network of individuals who are committed to public service work and to fostering the commitment in the next generation of attorneys."
"My experience as a PILI Fellow has created my lasting belief that lawyers have the responsibility and duty to provide pro bono legal services to support the community's needs."
"There is a lot of administrative paperwork that creates barriers for people who aren't lawyers and it's intimidating to go to court without a lawyer. The least we can do is to help make the process easier."
"I think that the sensitizing experience of a summer at a legal assistance agency for an Intern or Fellow is priceless. The creation of the 'lifetime commitment' is real and very important."
