Students were surprised by how emotional clients were during our calls or the text of the PILI questions. Multiple students commented on how hearing these stories helped put into perspective their loss of internships and other changes in law school plans.
The Illinois General Assembly will be reconvening this week to begin final budget negotiations. Please contact your state legislators as soon as possible and urge them to protect the civil legal aid appropriation in the FY 21 budget. Our advocacy tool makes it quick and easy.
At our organization, we define justice through a racial equity lens. Our voting rights works is laser-focused on eliminating barriers to voting and civic participation, especially in communities of color and low-income communities, and we use a community-informed strategy to drive our advocacy. For us, justice is denied when any number of voters is improperly turned away from the polls.
It was such an easy way to provide pro bono assistance to individuals on my own time. You could do as many or as few questions as you wanted, as often as you wanted, on topics that were of interest, or that aligned with my current practice areas.
