Request MCLE Credit for Pro Bono through Illinois Free Legal Answers
On April 1, 2025, the Illinois Supreme Court and the Supreme Court Executive Committee on the Practice of Law announced the adoption of a proposal to amend Supreme Court Rule 795(d) effective July 1, 2025 to establish the MCLE for Pro Bono Pilot Project in an effort to help to address unmet legal needs in Illinois.
The MCLE for Pro Bono Pilot Project creates a two-year pilot project wherein Illinois attorneys can receive Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credit for providing pro bono legal assistance through Illinois Free Legal Answers, for which PILI is the state administrator. The pilot project will allow an attorney to earn 1 hour of MCLE credit for every 2 hours of pro bono participation with Illinois Free Legal Answers, up to 5 credits per 2-year MCLE reporting period. Use the form below to request Illinois MCLE credit for your pro bono work through Illinois Free Legal Answers. Submitting this form is the only way to receive credit. We also appreciate your feedback for purposes of the Pilot Project.
Please note the following:
- Only pro bono work done through Illinois Free Legal Answers and the related time spent in responding to questions on the site are eligible to receive MCLE credit under the Pilot Project.
- You cannot request credit for pro bono work that was done prior to July 1, 2025.
- You must submit the request form in the month you closed the question(s) to receive credit.
- You may report up to five closed questions from the same month in one form.
- We will enter MCLE credit monthly, so if you have a question open, please do not rush to close it. All time spent on that question should be entered for the month in which you close it.
- At this time to receive credit, you must be an attorney in a 2-year reporting period. Newly admitted attorneys not yet in a 2-year reporting period are not eligible to receive MCLE credit for their pro bono work at this time.
