PILI provides a variety of pro bono opportunities for lawyers, law students and legal professionals across the state of Illinois. We are in need of volunteers for several upcoming and ongoing pro bono opportunities detailed below.
Bloomington Free Legal Advice Fair
The Eleventh Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee is once again co-sponsoring a Legal Advice Fair in Bloomington. Attorney volunteers are needed to give one-time legal advice concerning family issues, housing disputes, debt concerns and more. The Advice Fair is being held on September 23, 2023 from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm at Mid Central Community Action in Bloomington. Learn more »
Illinois Free Legal Answers
Illinois Free Legal Answers is a secure website where low-income Illinoisans can ask a lawyer for help with a civil legal issue. Volunteer lawyers then log onto the site at their convenience and answer questions waiting in the queue. It is a virtual walk-in legal clinic. Currently, there are 152 questions in the queue waiting to be answered. Even one answer can make a difference! Learn more »
Self-Represented Litigant Help Desks
At these help desks, volunteer attorneys meet with self-represented litigants for 30-minute appointments to help them understand and navigate the legal process, fill out forms and answer questions.

Conflict of Interest Pro Bono Referral Panels
PILI receives referrals from Prairie State Legal Services and Land of Lincoln Legal Aid in select counties where a client is denied services due to the existence of a conflict of interest. PILI then tries to assist that client by connecting them with a local pro bono attorney to provide some level of pro bono assistance from brief advice to full representation. Learn more »
- PILI is seeking volunteers for its Conflict of Interest Pro Bono Referral Panel in the Third Judicial Circuit. This project provides a referral source for Land of Lincoln Legal Aid to send potential clients in Bond and Madison Counties who have been denied service due to a conflict of interest.
- PILI is seeking volunteers for its Conflict of Interest Pro Bono Referral Panel in the Sixth Judicial Circuit. This project provides a referral source for Land of Lincoln Legal Aid to send potential clients in Champaign, DeWitt, Douglas, Macon, Moultrie and Piatt Counties who have been denied service due to a conflict of interest.
- PILI is seeking volunteers for its Conflict of Interest Pro Bono Referral Panel in the Tenth Judicial Circuit. This project provides a referral source for Prairie State Legal Services to send potential clients in Marshall, Peoria, Stark and Tazewell Counties who have been denied service due to a conflict of interest.
Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network (IL-AFLAN)
PILI is proud to be a member of the Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network (IL-AFLAN), which provides civil legal services across Illinois to veterans, active duty military and their spouses and dependents. It is a network comprised of legal aid organizations and law school clinics across Illinois. Through IL-AFLAN, PILI is responsible for accepting referrals through the Network and placing them with pro bono attorneys in 101 counties in Illinois, excluding Cook County. Volunteers are currently needed in every county across the state and especially in Boone, Effingham, Lake, Sangamon, Winnebago and Will Counties as well as across southern Illinois. Learn more »
