This year has been marked by so many challenges: the COVID-19 Pandemic and subsequent economic downturn, the ongoing fight against racial injustice and inequity, and a contentious federal election. These challenges have forced many low-income individuals and families to face a myriad of legal issues for which they need help. From fighting to keep their home during a pandemic, appealing unemployment benefit denials, knowing their rights during a protest or protecting everyone’s right to vote, the need for access to legal services has been particularly critical this year. But, this is not news to you.
In the past year, over 1,000 members of PILI’s community have offered their time, money or talent to ensure everyone in every part of Illinois has access to justice. Through PILI, we have all come together to make a difference.
That is because, in Illinois, PILI is the gateway through which the legal community serves. As you can read in the 2020 Year in Review, PILI brings people together from across our legal community to tackle every facet of access to justice. PILI converts our gifts into system-wide positive impact—together, we not only directly serve those who need legal help, but also engage, inspire and empower people like you who are advancing equal access to justice.
Justice starts here. Help us open PILI’s doors ever wider to bring in more people whom we can count on to advance justice with us.
