PILI seeks to sponsor applicants for Equal Justice Works, Skadden and/or another legal post-graduate fellowship beginning in September 2022. PILI plans to select applicants for sponsorship by August 2021.
If the sponsored applicant is selected for a fellowship, PILI expects that they will accept and complete the fellowship. Most post-graduate fellowships are two years. Candidates should submit a brief outline of the project they are proposing with their application materials.
General Project Parameters:
PILI’s mission is to engage, inspire and empower those advancing equal access to justice. An ideal legal post-graduate fellowship proposal would fit under PILI’s Pro Bono Program which works to increase the availability of pro bono legal help for those who cannot afford an attorney in Illinois. For example, a project proposal could involve: engaging retired attorneys in pro bono, expanding PILI’s Conflict of Interest Pro Bono Referral Panel around the state or other creative ways to expand pro bono state-wide.
Interested applicants are encouraged to reach out if they have an idea for a fellowship proposal before applying to ensure the proposal meets the needs of the community and PILI as well as the skills and interests of the applicant. Please email Brent Page, Senior Managing Attorney, to discuss further.
- JD anticipated by May 2022, recent law graduate, or experienced attorney seeking to make a career change to public interest work
- Experience working with public interest law and pro bono attorneys
- Ability to travel statewide as needed
- Fluency in oral and written English; fluency in other languages preferable, especially Spanish
To Apply: Please email cover letter, resume, and brief outline of the project to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please put “Post-Graduate Fellowship” in the subject line. Please do not send application materials by mail. Applicants will be contacted in the event that we wish to further discuss your qualifications. Open until applicants for sponsorship are selected, but preference given to those who apply on or before August 1, 2021.
Once an applicant is chosen, they will work with PILI to further develop a fellowship proposal to submit.
