Advising Program

A unique aspect of PILI’s Internship Program is our Advising Program, which pairs Interns with a member of PILI’s Board of Directors or Alumni Network for a personal introduction to the Illinois legal community. Many of our Board Members and Alumni are leaders in pro bono and public interest law, and participating in this program can help you start to build your professional network early in your career. This is an optional component of PILI’s Internship Program, which the majority of our Interns participate in every year. The registration deadline for the Alumni Program is now closed.

Service Tracking & Evaluation

In order to learn more about your Internship and your impact, PILI requires that you complete a brief service tracking form and program evaluation; more information is available here. We will send this out towards the end of your Internship.

Events:

PILI’s 40th Anniversary Kick-off Reception, February 9th

PILI is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2017! You are invited to attend this special Kick-off Reception on February 9th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Jones Day, 77 West Wacker. Please join us as we mark this momentous occasion and you can meet the PILI community, including board members, staff, Alumni and more. Advance registration is now closed.

Spring Interns Breakfast, February 23rd

PILI is hosting a breakfast for all spring PILI Interns and their supervisors. The breakfast will be on Thursday, February 23rd from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Foley & Lardner LLP, 321 North Clark Street, 28th Floor. You should invite an agency supervisor or other staff attorney and to be prepared to present information for 3-5 minutes about your agency and the work you are doing. This is a unique opportunity to network with your fellow PILI Interns, and meet other agency staff, PILI Alumni and PILI staff. Interns are expected to attend, and attendance at this breakfast counts towards the 200 hour time requirement. Advance registration is required by Tuesday, February 21st.

Additional Resources:

About your stipend:

You will receive your paycheck from your agency, not PILI. PILI issues a grant to the agency to cover the stipend. Then, the agency places each PILI Intern on its payroll, deducts taxes, and pays PILI Interns as a regular, temporary employee.

If there are any issues receiving your paycheck from your agency, or if you do not receive $2,500.00 before taxes, please contact Executive Director Michael Bergmann immediately.

Tips on making the most of your PILI Internship:

These tips compiled by agency supervisors and former Interns and Fellows can help you make the most of this valuable experience. Click here to download (pdf).

PILI Educational Seminars:

PILI maintains an online archive of past Educational Seminars, covering a variety of topics on public interest law and professional development, available on our YouTube channel »

PILI Facebook Spotlight

Each Friday, PILI spotlights one Intern and the work they are doing on our Facebook page. This is a great way to introduce yourself to the Illinois legal community. If you would like to be featured in a spotlight, please contact PILI Development & Communications Associate Lauren Harper.
