The Sangamon County Expungement & Recording Sealing Summit is an opportunity for individuals to receive free legal consultations on their options for criminal records relief. Volunteer lawyers are needed to prepare petitions to expunge and/or seal records for eligible participants to file in the appropriate circuit court. The Summit will be an in-person event on Saturday, October 29th. Volunteers lawyers are asked to sign up in advance using the registration form below.
Two virtual trainings for volunteers lawyers will be held and are strongly encouraged for those planning to volunteer at the Summit:
- The first CLE is scheduled for July 22nd from noon to 1:00 p.m. and will provide an overview of the expungement and sealing process.
- The second CLE is scheduled for August 19th from noon to 1:00 p.m. and will cover handling an expungement or sealing case in Sangamon County.
The trainings are free if you volunteer at the Summit or take a expungement or sealing case on a pro bono basis through Land of Lincoln Legal Aid in the future. CLE credit will be provided to attendees.
