Hot Topics in Public Interest Law

As the world changes, so must the legal landscape. This seminar will explore timely ‘hot topic’ legal issues shaping the world of public interest law. The specific topics will reflect current events and emerging trends. You will hear from legal experts in the field who will provide the insights and understanding needed to understand these topics.

This summer’s session will focus on the practice of community lawyering, a growing practice in the public interest legal that seeks to integrate lawyers into the communities they serve and empower community members in the legal process.

Speakers:

  • Marsheda Ewulomi, Director of Family Integrity, Illinois Black Advocacy Initiative
  • Daniel Massoglia, Legal Director, First Defense Legal Aid
  • Jake Marshall-Braun, Staff Attorney, Beyond Legal Aid
  • Alvar Ayala, Bilingual Chief Counsel, Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project
