Fourteenth Judicial Circuit CLE Program

Advising Low-Income Clients on Powers of Attorney & Advance Directives

The Fourteenth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee is hosting a complimentary CLE program to train attorneys to prepare healthcare and general Powers of Attorney and Living Wills for low-income individuals on a pro bono basis. Attendees will learn about how to assist clients with regard to Powers of Attorney and Living Wills as well as how to prepare them. The training will also explore recent changes to the Illinois Power of Attorney Act and the practical implications of those changes in advising clients and preparing Powers of Attorney. Panelists will also discuss strategies for assisting low-income clients and how to issue spot for clients who might be eligible for referral to Prairie State Legal Services for assistance in preparing a Last Will & Testament.

PILI has been approved for 2.0 hours of CLE credit in both Illinois and Iowa.

When registering for the training program, you will have the opportunity to register to participate in a Powers of Attorney Clinic for through Prairie State Legal Services at which pro bono attorneys will prepare Powers of Attorney and Living Wills for low-income senior and disabled individuals. The Clinics are being set up on a variety of dates, times and locations in an effort to assist low-income senior citizens and disabled individuals in the Quad Cities. Malpractice insurance and support will be available to pro bono attorneys who participate in these Clinics through Prairie State Legal Services.
