The DuPage Expungement Clinic will provide free legal assistance to individuals seeking to clear their criminal record. Attorney volunteers will consult with participants on available options for relief, prepare petitions to expunge and/or seal eligible records, and provide guidance on navigating the process from start to finish. Volunteers are also needed to assist clients that will join via Zoom. Both attorneys and non-attorney volunteers are needed! Volunteers can sign up for a 8:30am – 12:00pm shift, a 12:00pm-3:00pm shift, or both. Lunch will be provided for volunteers. Please register by July 15, 2022.
PILI is pleased to partner with the Clerk of the Circuit Court of DuPage County, Prairie State Legal Services, the DuPage County Bar Association, and DuPage Legal Aid on this event. The generous support provided through the Illinois Access to Justice grant program makes PILI and Prairie State’s participation possible.
Please note: Volunteer lawyers are required to attend a training session in order to volunteer, unless they handle expungement matters on a regular basis in their practice, or have attended a similar training session recently. Even in that case, you will need to review the procedures for the day of the clinic. The training will take place on July 20, 2022 from 2-4 PM at the DuPage Judicial Center Attorney Resource Center.
A training for non-attorney volunteers will take place virtually on July 27, 2022 from 12-1 PM. You will receive the link to the training after you register and a recording will be available. The duties and logistics for the event will be discussed in more detail.
