Free CLE: Overview of Civil Appellate Procedure

This presentation provides a general overview of the civil appellate process. This information can help volunteers assisting self-represented litigants who submit questions about their civil appeal through the Illinois Free Legal Answers platform.

Presenters

  • Justice Judy Cates, 5th District Illinois Appellate Court
  • Timothy Eaton, Partner at Taft Law
  • Josh Vincent, Partner at Hinshaw & Culbertson

For this training, 0.75 hours of CLE credit has been approved.

Illinois Free Legal Answers for Civil Appeals launched in September 2020 and it is the first-ever help desk in our state for appeals. The initiative was created via a partnership between PILI, the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, and the Access to Justice Commission.  This presentation will be one of an initial three-part series intended to train volunteer attorneys on assisting self-represented litigants.

If you are not already volunteering for the program, you can visit IL.freelegalanswers.org to register.
