About the Event
The Twenty-Third Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee will host this event to commemorate Pro Bono Week, recognize the commitment of local pro bono volunteers and celebrate the recipient of the pro bono service award. This event is co-sponsored by the DeKalb and Kendall County Bar Associations. Advance registration is required using the form below.
At this event, we will present the Twenty-Third Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Service Award to one or more lawyers practicing in the Twenty-Third Judicial Circuit who have provided outstanding pro bono services to low-income individuals or charitable organizations in the last year. Illinois Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth M. Rochford will be our special guest speaker at the event.

About the 2025 Award Recipients
Jack C. Slingerland, co-owner of Slingerland & Clark, P.C., has been a consistent and active volunteer with the 23rd Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee. He is an active member and past president of the DeKalb County Bar Association. Just in the past year, he has dedicated more than 100 hours to pro bono service, regularly assisting with CASA cases and advocating for children, volunteering for Lawyer in the Lobby at the courthouse, and contributing to programs such as the Criminal Records Relief Clinic and Illinois Free Legal Answers Clinics. In those Clinics, he also works with law students at NIU, inspiring them to engage in pro bono and public service. With more than 30 years of legal experience, Jack brings both skill and compassion to his work inside and outside the courtroom, with a career that exemplifies a deep commitment to serving his community and expanding access to justice.
Daniel Transier, of the Law Office of Daniel Transier, is a dedicated volunteer with the Kendall County Courthouse’s Lawyer in the Lobby program, where he has provided more than 25 hours of pro bono service in the past year. Additionally, Dan serves as a Certified Guardian ad Litem for minors and adults with disabilities, a conflict public defender, and an attorney for CASA Kendall County advocating for children. He is also the appointed Administrative Adjudication Hearing Officer for the United City of Yorkville. Beyond the courtroom, Dan gives back to his community as a volunteer baseball coach with Yorkville’s Park and Recreation program and by speaking to students at Oswego East and Oswego High Schools about practicing law. His commitment to service is also reflected in his active involvement with the Kendall County and Kane County Bar Associations.
