ABOUT THE 2026 EVENT
To celebrate Pro Bono Week the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee is hosting this CLE to support local pro bono efforts. At this CLE, the Immigration Project and local attorney Whitney Leifheit will discuss how regular state court guardianships can help minors in need. This seminar will focus on the state court process for obtaining guardianship and explain why organizations like the Immigration Project need volunteer attorneys’ help in state court!
Our speakers will take participants step-by-step through the process for obtaining an SIJS predicate order from a probate or family court in Illinois. Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) is an important form of immigration relief for children who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned by a parent. Attendees do not need to have experience and immigration law and, while the training will address how they interact, the CLE will focus on the probate or family court portion of the process.
Attendance is free, but advance registration is required using the form below. PILI will provide a light lunch for attendees.
