Many of PILI’s thousands of Alumni live right here in Chicago and are active in PILI’s mission to expand the availability of legal services for people, families and communities in need. Here are some ways you can get involved with PILI’s Alumni Network.
Attend an Alumni program or event:
PILI’s Alumni Network hosts a variety of programs throughout the year, including CLE programs, networking events and fundraisers. Our next event will be Play for PILI: An Evening at Emporium on April 28th at Emporium Arcade Bar in Logan Square. Tickets are only $25 presale, and all proceeds go to the Alumni Named Internship Campaign. See a full list of upcoming Alumni events here.
Be an advisor to current Interns and Fellows:
You can help introduce current PILIs to the Illinois legal community by acting as an advisor during their Internship or Fellowship. We are recruiting Advisors now for summer 2016. If you’re interested, you can fill out this registration form.
Volunteer with other Alumni:
Every month, you can volunteer at the Legal Prep Community Law Clinic, legal clinic hosted by the PILI Alumni Network at the Garfield Park neighborhood. In the summer or fall, you can volunteer at the annual Alumni service project, hosted by the Alumni Public Service Team. You can also get involved by joining an Alumni Network Team or the Alumni Network Leadership Council.
Help us connect with future PILIs:
We regularly do presentations and outreach at the law schools in and around Chicago. If you went to law school in the area and would be willing to join us for a presentation on PILI’s Internship and Fellowship Programs, let us know!
Suggest a spotlight or make a nomination:
Do you know any PILI Alumni doing amazing pro bono or public interest work? Or, are you a PILI Alum doing amazing pro bono or public interest work? Let us know about it! We give two awards to outstanding PILI Alumni every year at our Annual Awards Luncheon. We also regularly make nominations for other local and national awards, and we publish our own Alumni Spotlights to showcase the life-changing work our Alumni are doing. We’d love to hear from you about PILI Alumni you think are worthy of recognition. Tell us who you think we should spotlight or nominate next!
Sign up or follow along:
PILI sends out a monthly newsletter that includes news, updates and spotlights of PILI Alumni, PILI board members and local pro bono programs. Sign up for our newsletter or follow us on social media for news about PILI’s programs and updates from other PILI Alumni. We’re on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
Show your PILI pride:
Update your work bio or your LinkedIn profile to reflect that you’re a PILI Alum. This not only helps raise PILI’s profile, but it can help you connect to other PILI Alumni you didn’t even know were in your circles, and to other public interest-minded attorneys who also care about expanding civil legal aid.
Support the cause:
Donations from PILI Alumni directly support future PILI Intern stipends, helping ensure that more law students and new lawyers will have the same opportunity you had to participate in PILI’s Internship and Fellowship Programs. PILI currently raises enough money from Alumni to fully fund two Interns every summer. You can be a part of this too by making a donation today.
Keep up the good work!
PILI’s mission is to cultivate a lifelong commitment to public interest law and pro bono service in the Illinois legal community to expand the availability of legal services for people, families and communities in need. If you’re using your law degree to lend a hand, then you are living the mission. Thank you for your service and for your commitment to making the world a better place!
