PILI is extremely grateful for increased support of PILI from the Lawyers Trust Fund (LTF). The $62,500 grant provides foundational support for PILI’s Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committees. PILI is now operating eight of these committees throughout the state that work to expand and enhance pro bono in those communities, and by developing innovative approaches to filling gaps in the delivery of legal services to low-income individuals and families through pro bono.
PILI launched its first Judicial Circuit in 2011, which ultimately led to the organization’s statewide expansion. LTF was one of the first foundations to provide financial support for this effort and is the largest single foundation funder of PILI’s work in this area. PILI now offers a growing range of pro bono opportunities around the state to help those in need.
LTF is the largest state-level funder of civil legal aid for the poor in Illinois and makes grants from revenue generated by the Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program as well as a legal aid fee assessed on Illinois lawyers as part of the annual attorney registration process. LTF’s grants support non-profit organizations that provide a legal safety net for low-income people with desperate needs and nowhere else to turn.
