The Jerome Mirza Foundation has granted PILI $24,000 to support our efforts to promote public interest law and pro bono service in Illinois outside of Chicago. Jerome Mirza, a 1963 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law, was a leader in the field of trial advocacy and in the legal profession throughout his long career.
Specifically, this grant provides the stipends for two Law Student Interns outside of Chicago. These Jerome Mirza Memorial Interns work at at Land Of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation in Alton, Illinois and Prairie State Legal Services in Rock Island, Illinois.
The remaining funds support PILI’s Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committees. These seven Committees strive to increase equal access to justice across the state by promoting and enhancing pro bono legal services locally.
PILI is grateful to the Jerome Mirza Foundation and our other supporters for helping us cultivate a lifelong commitment to public interest law and pro bono service within the Illinois legal community.
