The Third Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee hosts this event to commemorate National Pro Bono Week and recognizes the efforts of Pro Bono Pledge Signatories and Pro Bono Service Award Recipients to expand and enhance access to justice in the Third Judicial Circuit.
At the event, the Third Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Service Awards will be presented to one or more lawyers for their outstanding pro bono services to low-income individuals and to charitable organizations.
2016 Award Recipients
Pro Bono Firm of the Year: Simmons Hanly Conroy
In June 2016, Simmons Hanly Conroy hosted a community Expungement Day to help individuals review their criminal history and draft petitions for expungements and sealings. Fifteen attorneys, from Simmons and other local firms, attended a training and volunteered. The firm also offered free drug testing for those who needed to attach a clean test to their petitions. Judges were available to approve fee waivers and sign orders, several state’s attorneys were on hand to review criminal histories with volunteer attorneys, and Simmons support staff made sure the event ran smoothly. At the end of the day, 100 individuals were assisted and 50 others left their information to receive assistance in the future.
