ABOUT THE EVENT
The Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee and the DuPage County Bar Association will showcase available pro bono opportunities and present the inaugural Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Service Award. Attendees will also be able to answer questions on the Illinois Free Legal Answers website – a great bite sized pro bono opportunity – while enjoying a hot breakfast buffet.
2019 PRO BONO SERVICE AWARD
The Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Service Award will be presented to one or more lawyers practicing in the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit who have provided outstanding pro bono services to low-income individuals or charitable organizations in the last year. You may submit a self-nomination or nominate a colleague, and you may also submit multiple nominations. The awards are intended to recognize pro bono legal services rendered in the last twelve months. It only takes 5-10 minutes to complete the nomination form. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, September 20th.
Legal Answers Clinic
At the Spirit of Pro Bono Breakfast, attendees will also be invited to volunteer with Illinois Free Legal Answers. Free Legal Answers is a secure website (IL.freelegalanswers.org) where lower income Illinois residents can ask a lawyer for help with a legal issue. Qualified users post questions about civil legal problems then volunteer lawyers log onto the site and select questions to answer. It’s a virtual walk-in legal clinic.
How the Legal Answers Clinic will work:
- Before the event, volunteers register with IL.freelegalanswers.org.
- At the event, volunteers will be trained on how to answer Legal Answers questions.
- Lawyers will answer as many questions as they are able at the event and then will be able to answer many more whenever they want.
